The Measurable Difference in Angus Genetics
Our operation runs deep with family roots. Quality of life and quality of work know no separation here. We live for the essence of this life. Every moment that we work, we are grateful to be here, and to know that we have found the greatest place on earth.
About Our Breeding Program:
Reminisce Angus started in 1984 with the purchase of 2 registered heifers from Schultz Angus in Sheridan, Montana. After that, we purchased females from other Montana herds, including, Felton Angus, Sitz Angus, Vermillion Ranch and Jolly Roger Angus. We sold bulls private treaty for several years before holding our own auction. We started and ran Mussard Bull Development Center in 1991 and successfully ran it for 9 years. Those were incredible learning years for us. We got to know some great people in the Angus business and we learned a lot about the breed and its potential as well. In 1998 we wanted to increase our focus on our own breeding program and took the leap into a very saturated Montana Angus business. It is the best place on earth to be in the Angus business. It is also the toughest place. Montana is the Angus capitol of the world and the competition is staggering.
We focus on the measurable difference in Angus genetics and it starts with quality beef. When it’s all said and done, someone has to eat our product for us to be profitable, which defines sustainability. From there, we measure and track all the other maternal and performance traits necessary to raise predictable, repeatable, and sound seed stock for our customers. It is a fun, interesting challenge to navigate through.
We try to buy as many customer cattle as well. We get these cattle started, and send them in Kansas and Idaho for them to be finished. Every animal is sold on the grid. The data generated is used to help our customers improve their herds. We have developed some great friendships in the last 33 years. Before our 2017 sale we honored 7 ranches that have been buying bulls from us for 20-33 years now. That was the highlight of our sale!
We look forward to seeing a lot of friends on the tour and hope to make some new ones. Come enjoy a gorgeous afternoon at our stop and we’ll give you a peek at what we’re up to now.
